About the BSFA Awards

Book categories only: Best Novel, Best Non-Fiction (2008-2022) and Best Long Non-Fiction (2023 on), Best Fiction for Younger Readers (2021 on; called Best Book for Younger Readers at first) and Best Collection (2023 on). Year is the year the BSFA names the award for, which is the year the work was published; winners are announced at Eastercon the following spring. Winners come from the BSFA Past Winners page. The BSFA site only keeps the current shortlist (2025), so 2006-2024 shortlists come from the Science Fiction Awards Database (sfadb.com). Non-fiction rows are books only; shortlisted essays, columns, blogs, websites, podcasts and talks are left out, as are the 2009-2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 non-fiction winners, which were not books (the 2011 winner is the online Encyclopedia of Science Fiction). The 2006 non-fiction titles were a recommended reading list with no award and are left out; there was no non-fiction award for 2007. Alien Clay (2024 Best Novel) is left out because its nomination was withdrawn.
