If you are an avid reader or have an avid reader in your home than you know how quickly books can be read in your home. If this is the case you will want to know what some of the best sellers are so that you can always find new books to read. There are so many books that are published every day it is hard to determine which ones are worth reading and which ones are not. Furthermore the opinions of the many different critics could greatly differ from your own opinion so you have to one with similar tastes if you want to end up reading a book you will like, or at least choose books that many different critics have a good opinion of rather than just one. Fiction books are even harder to choose because an opinion regarding a specific storyline is so personal whereas with non-fiction you are reading fact and basing an opinion on how you felt about the book rather than whether it was entertaining or not. Listed are some bestselling fiction books from 2009 that have been listed on numerous lists. If you have read them all you may want to search other lists for great books that you have not had the opportunity to read yet.
Dean Koontz – Breathless – Koontz is always writing bestsellers and this is just another one of his great works. Always bordering on the fantastic, his books are entertaining and suspenseful and this one is no different. Breathless is a story that takes place in the Colorado Rockies and involves mysterious animals there.
Sue Grafton – U Is For Undertow – The latest of the Kinsey Millhone cases is as good as the rest. Grafton always gives a great story line and a little bit of drama and suspense to go with it as she has done again in this latest book of the series.
John Grisham – Ford County – Typical Grisham set in the south with these newest stories taking place in Mississippi. There are multiple stories in this collection each a bit longer than a short story. This book is great for those individuals who would rather read shorter stories.

Stephen King – Under the Dome – Whenever you hear the name Stephen King you know you can expect a good read and this book is no different than the rest. The story takes place in Maine, as most of King’s books do, and is about a town that is trapped in itself by a force field that is invisible to all.

How to Find the Best Book on Relationships
A perfect relationship is hard to find. People are not prefect, so even if they have the best intentions these are not always enough to keep two people together. If you feel that your relationship is on shaky ground, or if your relationship has recently ended, then you may be interested in a good book on relationships. Relationship books are among the most popular categories of books, and there are so many new titles coming onto the market all the time. This makes it very difficult to know if you are purchasing the best book on relationships.
The first thing to remember is not to be impressed by the letters preceding the authors name. Basically all the letters mean is that the author has earned a degree of some kind(who knows if the credentials are legitimate?). A degree does not mean that the authors actually understand relationships. A degree does mean that they do understand what a text book says, they understand the theories, but unfortunately lets face it, practical experience is needed when giving relationship advice. When you are dealing with real people this kind of ‘text book’ experience does not mean much.
Life experience is what is need, not all the abbreviations behind a name, this is what you should be looking for. The kind of experience you should be looking for for instance is: How long have they been in a relationship? Have they been through a rough time in a relationship and were they able to fix it? A quick and easy way to find out is to read the authors bio near the front or back of the book as this will give you the information you will need to judge the authors experience when it comes to relationships.
Some books are so full of fluff, and they could be written up in one sentence “be nice to each other”. These books are not worth the money or time it takes to read them. The type of book you should be looking for are books that offer you new information, with several different solutions. Look for books that have specific steps rather than books with vague generalities.
A good rule of thumb when choosing a relationship book is to look who are recommending any of the books you are interested in. Do they actually mention actual situations and results? Read the recommendations, do these people come from different backgrounds and are they located in different places. If the many readers who are happy with the book, the book will more than likely be right for you.
There are many books out there about staying together or getting back together which are very poor indeed. There are however some that are very good. If you don’t find one right away, keep trying, because in the long run it will be worth it.

Best Books Of The Year Generally Have Some Similar Aspects
The best books of the year has always been a difficult question to answer. What are the criteria? Who is the audience? Is the best book really about the one which is the most suspenseful and fun to read, or the one which will help lead to some new medical breakthrough? Maybe the book for the candidate for best novel is really about helping the reader figure out their own psyche. Or, it just could be the one which helps the reader find a good laugh and get their mind out of their daily lives and into a fantasy world.
Since there is such a broad range of topics on which books are written, how can there ever be a consensual best? Should the best book just automatically be crowned the one which wins the Pulitzer Prize? What about giving the title of best book simply to the one which sells the most? In that case, should the Bible and the Koran be included and then possibly receive the awards year after year? In that case, what about Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse?
In my humble opinion, I think if a book is \”good\”, it will just somehow find its way to the surface by word of mouth. From there, the story line must be broad enough as to interest the masses. A book on the recent advances in astrophysics may be fascinating for some, but for others, a Stephen Hawking novel may very well be as much fun as reading directions for filling out a rebate form for that new laptop you just bought. On the other hand, the mechanical engineer may be fascinated by recent advances in manufacturing technology while a chef might find a book on exotic herbs the most exciting information of their lifetime.
However, this line of reasoning leads us to then believe that a book on exotic herbs most likely will never reach anywhere near the top of the list for the \”best books of the year\”. Is that so wrong? I believe it is not.
Overall, I feel that improving the overall human condition is the most important aspect to judging the criteria for the novels which should make the top of the list. With that being the case, then one might think that my opinion (and it is just that, an opinion), would then preclude \”fun\” novels which seem prime for reading on the beach. Quite the contrary, the human condition is improved when one takes a few moments to study their own lives, relates to others in the books that they read, and somehow comes out with a deeper understanding of themselves and deeper connection to the world around them and what it actually is or could be in the mind of an author. Thus, any reading which promotes self-reflection or helps a reader to experience the horrors of this world without having to actually go through them physically for themselves helps us all grow.
In these ways, when we read, we walk in the shoes of another and see the world from a different angle. True, there is no \”right answer\” for the best books of the year, but I would venture to guess that the novels which are up for the award each year all have one common denominator – they each help the reader to remove themselves from the 4 walls of the room they are in and transport themselves to another reality. And most importantly, these writings cause the reader to feel, examine, and even touch the world around them in such a way which leaves them wondering if such a fantastic world is, was, or could be remotely possible here in this realm; and each time the reader if left answering themselves with a \”yes\”. In this way, we grow as a race, we grow as a people, and we grow evolve as a species.

I am a 6th grade teacher, and just finished reading Midnight Magic by Avi to my class…….to say they LOVED it is an understatement. (One day they chose to stay in and hear the book rather than go to recess)….I am looking for some other GREAT read aloud choices that my kids can really sink their teeth into. Any genre will do, but knowing sixth graders as I do, humor, mystery, and suspense are their favorite kinds of books. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

"When You Reach Me" (Rebecca Stead) won the 2010 John Newbery Medal for children’s literature. "Made to Stick" (Chip and Dan Heath) is a non-fiction examination of which ideas thrive and why. "The Girl Who Played with Fire" (Stieg Larsson) is the second title in a trilogy featuring a "social misfit hacker" and an investigative journalist. "New York" (Edward Rutherfurd) covers 350 years of the city’s history in a sweeping work of historical fiction.
How to Get a Novel Published – The First Step is a Query Letter
your query letter is your first step to getting your novel published. A good query letter catches the agent’s attention and is the first step in how to get a novel published. What should be included in your query letter?
The first paragraph should be a brief synopsis of your novel. No more than 100 words, perhaps 150 words. This synopsis is written in the present tense. You want to hook the agent’s curiosity to read more. It’s a challenge to condense a 100,000 novel down to 150 words, but important you do. Think of the synopsis as a back cover blurb. It gives just enough information to create excitement about the novel. If you need some examples go to the bookstore and look at the back cover blurbs of books in the same genre as yours.
The second paragraph describes the market for your novel and includes the genre. Are you aiming for romance readers, cozy mystery readers or is your book a young adult novel? You can compare your book to other similar books, saying something like “readers of Sandra Brown will enjoy TITLE OF YOUR BOOK. Mention the word count and that the novel is completed.
The third paragraph includes your background as a writer and a brief bio. If you have writing credits make sure you mention them. Many agents don’t consider a vanity/subsidy book or self-published book as a writing credit. If you include the title they will look it up on amazon.com to see who the publisher is.
The third paragraph is where you can describe any special experience you have that could become a publicity hook or gives you an insight other writers might not have. For example if you are a pastry chef and your heroine is also a pastry chef that would be relevant.
End the letter by thanking the agent for their time and consideration and asking if they would like to see the first few chapters or a completed manuscript. The purpose of the query letter is to motivate the agent to ask for the manuscript.
The query letter should be no more than one page single spaced. You could also include a 2 or 3 page synopsis of your novel, but don’t include the first chapter or the entire manuscript.
A great query letter is the first step in “how to get a novel published.”
